Rev. Fr. Karunaratnam of Jaffna Diocese Killed in a Claymore Blast

Fr. Karunaratnam has been serving at Vannivi'laangku'lam Parish under very difficult circumstances, looking after the people, specially the refugees and displaced people.

Fr. Karunaratnam, the Parish Priest of Vannivi'laangku'lam had gone to say the Holy Mass at Maangku'lam Church and was returning to Vannivi'laangku'lam. He had been killed in a claymore blast.

The mortal remains of Fr. Karunaratnam were brought to St. Theresa's Church at Kilinochchi in the evening today. Funeral arrangments have not yet finalized.

Fr. M X Karunaratnam March 2008On 20 August 2006, Fr. Jim Brown, 34, and Vimalathas, a father of five children, went missing amid escalated warfare between the security forces and separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

On 26th September 2007, Rev. Fr. Nicholaspillai Packiyaranjith, was killed in a claymore bomb explosion on the Pooneryn (Poonakari) Road, at Kalvi'laan, when he was taking relief food and humanitarian supplies to the refugee camp and to the Orphanage at Vidathalvu.
