Protest Rally at UN September 24by Tamils Against Genocide, September 19, 2008
Protest Rally in front of UN in New York - Wednesday Sept. 24 - 9:30am - 2:00pm Tamil civilians in Tamil Eelam (northeast of the island now called Sri Lanka) are facing starvation, displacement, abductions and killings by the Sinhala majority-dominated government and their armed forces and paramilitary collaborators. The scale of the atrocities has approached genocidal proportions similar to the Armenian, Jewish, Ruwandan and Darfur genocides.
Last week the Sri Lankan government directed all Aid Agencies and other INGO’s to immediately leave the overwhelmingly Tamil Vanni region. Most, including the UN obliged, with the exception of the ICRC. The Government has set the stage for a war without witnesses. The intent is genocide. Having arranged for genocide, the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has the audacity to come and address the UN to justify his criminal actions as war against terror. Come and join the Protest Rally in front of the UN Building in New York. Day and Time - September 24, 2008, between 9:30 AM and 2:00 PM. Location - Near UN Plaza, on First Ave between 46th and 47th Streets. The rally is sponsored by Tamils Against Genocide. It is up to us, living in the land of the free to call the spade a spade and halt the Tamil genocide. The great Nelson Mandela once said that it is within our power to prevent genocide. Please sacrifice your day at work and join this important protest rally against Rajapaksa’s Tamil Genocide in big numbers. Lend your voice for the voiceless. If not us, then who? If not now, then when? |
