Human Rights Day December 10

International Human Rights Day will be observed on 10 December 2005.

The  Day  marks  the  anniversary of the General Assembly's adoption of the
Universal  Declaration  of  Human  Rights  in  1948.  The historic document
outlines  the  human rights standards the UN believes should be enforced by
all  nations—among  them  "the  right  to life, liberty and nationality, to
freedom of thought, conscience and religion, to work, to be educated, [and]
to  take  part in government." To view the document in its entirety, please

In  a  statement  issued on 10 December 2004, Secretary-General Kofi
Annan  stated  that  "Human  rights education is much more than a lesson in
schools  or  a  theme  for  a day; it is a process to equip people with the
tools   they   need  to  live  lives  of  security  and  dignity.  On  this
International Human Rights Day, let us continue to work together to develop
and  nurture  in  future  generations a culture of human rights, to promote
freedom,  security and peace in all nations."
