Please Do Not Support State Terrorists

A Letter to US Officials

by V. V.

The international community, including the US, has failed to put pressure on the Sri Lankan state terrorists to stop their criminal activity. This type of blind backing has persuaded the bloodthirsty politicians that they can use their army, police force and paramilitaries against the Tamil population without repercussion and at least 6 Tamils are killed per day.

The fact is that Sri Lankan government has doubled its military budget for 2007, and is preparing to kill more Tamils.

Dear Sir / Madam:

Please don’t support Sri Lankan Sinhala state terrorists.

It is sad to see that some US politicians and officials do not understand the Tamil struggle and Sinhala state terrorism in Sri Lanka.

Not all state actors are civilized, yet the US blindly supports Sri Lanka because the US sees the Sri Lankan government as a 'responsible' state actor. All the past and present Sri Lankan governments have committed terrible atrocities against the Tamils, but these crimes have just been buried because of the the governments' state actor status. The Sri Lankan government is not in the "terrorist" list ONLY because it is a state actor. Backing the Sri Lankan government means approving the killing of Tamil civilians.

Just yesterday alone, Sri Lankan state terrorists and their paramilitaries killed 8 Tamils in Jaffna and 3 Tamils in Colombo. Please understand that these extrajudicial killings at the hands of the state occur every day.

The Sri Lankan government is a state terrorist and their only aim is to eliminate the Tamil race from the island of Ceylon. Already they have driven two thirds of the Tamil population from their homes.

No human being will tolerate this type of state terrorism. That is why Tamils keep asking to separate, to get away from the Sinhala terrorist military. It is shameful that civilized foreign governments still do not take any actions against this Sinhala-dominated Sri Lankan government.

Tamils have been oppressed by the Sinhala state terrorists since independence in 1948. More than 70,000 Tamils have been directly killed, and a million Tamils have been displaced due to state terrorism and another million have fled the island. The Tamil homeland has been systematically colonized by the thuggish Sinhala politicians to change the demographics of the Tamil homeland.

Tamils cannot live with this state terrorism, and that is why they want to separate to form their own state of Tamil Eelam. The US should understand the Tamil struggle in Sri Lanka, and support them to build their own country and get out from under this Sinhala state terrorism. The Sinhala-dominated government has never allowed Tamils to live with dignity in Sri Lanka.

The Sinhala government have killed more than 1500 Tamils since the Norwegian-led ceasefire agreement was signed. None of the agreements reached in the peace talks have been honored by the Sinhala-dominated Sri Lankan government.

The US government keeps insisting that Tamils' aspirations must be addressed. To secede from the Sinhala state has been the Tamil aspiration since the 1976 Vaddakottai Resolution, and the ensuing 1977 election results clearly showed this fact. In simple terms, Tamils want to live without fear of the Sinhala military and they want to govern their own people in their own place.

The Tamil struggle has more than 55 years of history, and was peaceful in the beginning for decades. Branding this struggle as terrorism, or the current Tamil leadership as terrorist, is not the way to find a peaceful solution. The problem is the Sinhala military, not the LTTE. Even before the LTTE was born, the Sinhala military killed Tamils and destroyed Tamil properties. You may want to take a look at the 1958 riots and other atrocities committed by Sinhala thugs before 1976. It is the Sinhala-dominated Sri Lankan government fault that a political solution has not yet been found, but our government keeps punishing the Tamils. When Sinhala state terrorists kill Tamils, the UD seems to approve. But when Tamils fight back and try to protect themselves from Sinhala mobs or military forces, you see it as terrorism.

If you will not consider talking to LTTE because of US laws, please make sure to stay in close touch with the Tamils' representatives, the Tamil National Alliance.

Sincerely,

An average Tamil Engineer.
