He pointed out that Tamils living within and outside the island have big deposits in these banks and the internal banking sector borrowing of the GoSL are drawn from these savings.

Economic analyst S Balakrishnan, in a report presenting the pattern of borrowing of GoSL from 2001 to 2006, said that Tamils are depositing their savings in banks under GoSL control and thus allowing the Sri Lanka government to borrow it to kill Tamils.

Government of Sri Lanka borrowing 2001 -2006 by S Balakrishnan His figures are presented in the chart. The borrowings are divided into three categories: external borrowing, internal borrowing from non-banking sectors, and internal borrowing from banking sectors.

Balakrishnan particularly highlighted the fact that the internal banking sector money is made up of the savings of the people. He pointed out that Tamils living within and outside the island have big deposits in these banks and the internal banking sector borrowing of the GoSL are drawn from these savings.

He noted that on average the Sri Lankan Government has continued to borrow a third of the deposits in the banks.

Balakrishnan emphasized the importance of Tamils not depositing money in these banks. Those who care about the development of the Tamil homeland, he said, could deposit their savings in the Tamil Eelam Bank and thus ensure two things at the same time. That the money is not borrowed by the Sri Lanka Government to kill Tamils and, also, that the money in fact is used for the development the Tamil homeland.
