Response to Article on Tamilchelvanby Tamil Writers Guild, November 7, 2007
Dear Editor, Re: The Guardian obituary 5 Nov. 2007 - SP Tamilchelvan Couched within this obituary, are gratuitous insults and slanderous insinuations about Tamilchelvan's life and the LTTE's methods. Tamilchelvan is the dove of peace who has been assassinated by the Sinhala Sri Lankan state, and that puts a brake on the peace negotiations. This is what the government of Mahinda Rajapakse and his warmongering brothers wanted. The apparent facts as they must appear to the Guardian reader, must have been supplied by the SL High Commission in London - purveyors of infamy or one of the Sinhalese hacks in London. Why cannot the so-called left in England understand the bravery of a freedom struggle against a powerful state armed by the West? Even his funeral in Kilinochchi was visited by Kfir bombers and unmanned Drones of the Sri Lanka airforce. The Tamils have only their hands and their guns but they will fight tooth and nail in their own country for their liberation. Cyanide capsules and his barber's beginning (even if true - after all hairdressers are celebrities in this country) are not the story but the truth should be told of his courage and that of the Tamil leadership and the Tamil people against a repressive and well-armed Sri Lankan state determined to wipe out the Tamils. Eelam is not 'so called' as Farrell pompously declaims; as it is in the hearts of all Tamils. Shame on the West and Israel that supplied the bombs and planes that bombed and killed Tamilchelvan but Farrell weaves a different story to please his paymaster. Tom Farrell has allowed his conscience to be purloined. A sad day indeed for the heroic dead and for journalism. Sincerely yours, Ivan Pedropillai B.Sc., M.Sc., FCCA, FCMA
