Tamil Students Association 'Most Outstanding'

Due to the high dedication of volunteers YUTSA was able to capture the Overall best performance award for Multicultural Week 2008.

Multicultural Week 2008 is a week long event which celebrates and promotes diversity. With over 60 different clubs being represented and over 10 000 students participating, the energy, unity and solidarity radiates through the colors, sounds and various exhibitions.

Tamil Students Association at York University (YUTSA) was a very active participant during the week long festivities and this year had even more reason to be excited and motivated! Every year, each countries flag is displayed in York Lanes and this year the Tamil Eelam National Flag has also been included.

By being so active, this turned into great accomplishment. YUTSA was able to capture three of the six awards given.

Tamil Student Association York University February 2008 Tamil Students Association was holding up the Tamil Eelam Flag, during the parade. A classic Tamil Wedding Theme was chosen, to showcase the colors, the sound, and the experience of a Tamil Wedding. Following the Parade, there was a Global fashion show; here YUTSA was to showcase our traditional clothing. YUTSA captured first prize for the parade, and second place for the fashion Show.

The Next Day during food fair YUTSA exhibited Tamil cuisine to the York population. Tamil Culture offers exotic delights for all people to discover variety of tastes. With the help of Babu catering, YUTSA captured first prize in that category as well.

Tamil Student Association York University February 2008 The following two days were strong battles in during cross cultural workshops, and global village. During the workshop, many people from different walks of life were taught how to do simple bharathanatiyum dance moves. Following was an amazing stage performance to showcase live music, live singing, classical dancing, and modern dancing all during one performance.

The objective of the Tamil Students' Association at York University is to unite Tamil students to share and promote an understanding of Tamil culture within and outside the Tamil community through various social and cultural events.
