The FireThat is too hot to handle and too cruel to ignoreby Victor Ragunathan, February 18, 2009 Souls do not disintegrate and die; Years pass and yet they do not fade away. Memories are like a distant star Pouring forth its light across the void All our tears and laughter do not lie; Though we pass like dreams, our spirits stay, Held fast by love, which is just what we are, Yet in a form that cannot be destroyed. -- R.J. Rummel in “War and Democide, never again”
The Fire, British Commissioners Soulbury and Donoghmore* have ignited Buried the Souls of the Eelam people The fire that has been burning over a half a century They first called it arson, and riots
It is the fire that the United Kingdom created in the name of a new constitution They then called it 'Ethnic Tension'
It is the fire that the Kingdom of Hell has created that is Engulfing the island It is now called GENOCIDE It is now too hot to handle and too cruel to ignore They have created the Frankenstein(s) in the name of a Sovereign state It has violated every Human value on earth They have aided this Monster in the name of a fight against terror It has twisted every rule of engagement
They have nurtured this Beast in the name of a 'friendly country' It has violated every law of occupation
They have created a Devil in the name of protecting 'Democracy' and 'Sovereignty' Now it is them, the Devil’s advocates
Was it a sin that we learned the colonial language more than the others that We are now a stateless people?
Was it a sin that we abided by the rules of the commissions so that We lost our right to self-determination? Was it a sin that we educated our sons and daughters so that We lost the right to live?
Was it a sin that we supported Her Majesty’s constitution so that We lost the right to have our homeland? We are more united than ever before that We should not let the fire engulf us We are more determined than ever before that We will fight for what is rightfully ours We are more powerful than ever before that We will regain our statehood We had enough Subjugation that We will not bow down for any more threats
RESTORE THE RIGHT TO LIVE, RESTORE THE TAMIL HOMELAND AND
LET THE JUSTICE PREVAIL “They die for the crying, when we all cry for the dying”- Meena Kandasamy To the memories of Most Honorable Sivaprakasam, Muthukumar, Ravi, Ravichandran, Murugathasan and Rajah for their most courageous and selfless act * British Commissioners who were in charge of the initial Sri Lankan constitution. |
