Concept ‘Operation Ellalan’ – A military operation by the militants who carry forward the Eelam liberation Struggle on the Srilankan vital Air base at Anuradhapuram. This operation which was carried out by the Suicide division of the militants, took the liberation struggle to a next phase. This film ‘Ellalan’ re-plays the operation in which 21 militants gave up their life, with all its essence, without any fictious additions or exaggerations. The dedication, commitment and planning behind a victory and the softer side of the militants who carry out the operation are less known to the world. The fact that, for just a few hours of operation.. how many days the militants have spent on training and planning.. The fact that, behind every militant who voluteers to give up their life for the sake of liberating their homeland, is a affectionate familiy, adorable friends and may be, even a love.. unknown.. This film presents this life in a poetic way with all its valor and love! Progress The initial screen play discussions for the film were started in January 2008. The film went for shoot in February 10th 2008 and for next 8 months, until September 2008, the team shed not only their sweat, but truly their blood too, in the soil of Vanni, amidst artilleries and shells to present us the true story of ‘Ellalan’. On the 7th day of the shoot, February 17th 2008, the hero of the film, Major. Pukazh Maaran and 3 others were killed by shell attack of the Srilankan Army. The next schedule had to go with the new hero, Mr. Yuganthan. The post production work was done outside Srilanka from October 2008 and by January 2009, the film was ready to hit the screens. With the war at its peak, and the turn of events after the war was ‘ended’, made the film to wait for so long.. and now it is here before you! Many of the cast and crew are killed in the war .. This film stands as a record of their life and the heroic Liberation Struggle they undertook to liberate their home land .. Eelam! |
