The Only Practical Solutionby D Kannangara, Lankaweb, Colombo, August 7, 2006
One requirement to determine if genocide has taken place or not is the explicit declaration of 'intention.' It is articles like the one below that provide the language to those who want to destroy a people 'in whole or in part.' Article retrieved by and commented on by TamilNation.org A website catering to Sinhala extremists is openly advocating genocide of Tamils. www.Lankaweb.com , which has been publishing the opinions of Sinhalese extremists for several years, crossed a threshold on August 7, 2006, when it published an article by a reader, Mr. D. Kannangara, who calls for genocide of Tamils as the solution to the current ethnic crisis in Sri Lanka. Calling the struggle of the Tamil people as a ' terrorist problem,' Mr. Kannangara on Lankaweb.com says, "Genocide will solve the terrorist problem for good." "As most industries run by [Tamils] can easily be managed by any other, resultant economic contraction would be minimal. However, a smaller population (a reduction by 3.2 million) would enjoy an immediate jump in GDP per capita," declares Mr. Kannangara. The Lankaweb piece goes onto say, "Without advancing this historically tried and tested solution, there can never be an end to our problems. We can split hairs about peace, devolution, war, dhamma, co-existence, etc. without any achievement.Unless all cancer cells are exterminated, the sickness will take-over the entire living body. This surgery should be done soon and entirely if we want to save the patient - the nation." It is time that we learn from our history. As we know the most prosperous was Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa eras from 6 century BC to 13 century AD. There is a striking similarity of how our greatest kings brought about sustainable peace-lasting a substantial period of time-law & order and economic upheaval. Mahawamsa describes in great detail how genocide was used effectively. Although brutal, it appears the only viable solution to all our ills as proved time and time again in our history and the contemporary history of many stable countries including Turkey, USA, Canada, Australia, China,Germany, Japan. It is a fact that Sri Lanka is divided into two- Sinhalese and Muslims on one side and Tamils on the other. Almost all Tamils believe LTTE terrorists are liberators; most do not give any regard to Sri Lanka's attempts to restore law and order, achieve economic prosperity and all other national endeavours. Disproportionately larger number of Tamils exploit our tax money to educate themselves and appropriate part of their fruits of such education to fund the killing of the same Sinhalese who funded their education. As a matter of fact the largest tax evaders are Tamils. A genocide will solve the terrorist problem for good; along with it problems associated with security, drugs, underworld and arms trafficking. As most industries run by them can easily be managed by any other, resultant economic contraction would be minimal. However, a smaller population (a reduction by 3.2 million) would enjoy an immediate jump in GDP per capita. Large projects such as H'tota harbour, oil industry can flourish without paying ransom to terrorists and devoid of fear of bombings, etc. The nation will have higher beds per 1000 people as well as higher rate of university admissions, lower unemployment. It will also come in time to solve problems associated with the upcountry. As proven financially, tea industry is loss making especially when social and environmental costs are factored-in. This vast fertile area can be utilised for economically and environmentally profitable ventures such as dairy production, tourism, hydro power generation, etc. Above all we can stand up to the challenges of the modern world as a nation-undivided. Without advancing this historically tried and tested solution, there can never be an end to our problems. We can split hairs about peace, devolution, war, dhamma, co-existence, etc. without any achievement. Unless all cancer cells are exterminated, the sickness will take-over the entire living body. This surgery should be done soon and entirely if we want to save the patient - the nation. |
