People Against Sri Lankan Oppression.
P. O. Box 5581, Benoni South. 1502 Gauteng. Rep of South Africa. Tel/Fax No: (011) 421-3235 1st March 1999 Press Release. IS JUSTICE REALLY COLOR BLIND. It is with pleasure that we see the United Nations putting pressure on the Serbs to stop the violations of human rights in Kosovo. NATO has even threatened the Serbs with air strikes and force, if they do not comply and withdraw from Kosovo. We applaud the US and the UN for their gallant effort to safe guard Human Rights in Kosovo. It is such a pity that the UN and US practice double standards. The very same thing is happening in Sri Lanka today, and has been happening for the last two decades, yet we have not heard a whimper out of the US, the UN or the world. A village is destroyed in Kosovo, and 40 villagers are killed. The world shouts in horror and demands justice. A village is bombed in Tamil Eelam, 65 Tamils are killed and over 200 injured. A school is bombed, 30 students are killed and over100 injured and the Tamil peoples cries are met with deafening silence from the world. We hear of a mass grave in Bosnia and Kosovo, and the world send in investigators and forensic experts to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice. It was brought to the attention of the UN that a mass grave was discovered in the Jaffna district in October 1998. Thus far, the world and the UN has done nothing. They are depending on the Sri Lankan governments investigators to furnish them with details. How can a government investigate itself? How can the Tamil people expect justice when the perpetrator of the crime is investigating itself? To date the Sri Lankan government has not even started their investigation, and the world still does nothing!. There must be something seriously wrong with the world and especially the UN, if it could see injustice in one part of the world and act against the perpetrators, and not see the injustice in another part of the world. Is it because the one group is European and the other is Tamil. Is the world so racist that it give more value to European lives than it would to Tamil lives ?. Tommy M.
