Computer Center Opened in Vaddakkachchi

A Free Computer Training Center was ceremonially opened today the 24th of October 2003, the Theepavali festival day, in Vaddakkachchi in the Kilinochchi district, jointly by the Tamil Information Technology Association (TITA), Sri Lanka, and London Shri Kanaga Thurkai Amman Temple Trust (SKTATT).

This is the second Free Computer Training Center opened by these two organizations during the last two weeks. The first one was opened at Kilner Lane in Jaffna Town on the 9th of October 2003.

The new Vaddakkachchi Computer Training Center is equipped with 4 second user PCs sent from London and 4 new PCs purchased from Colombo. It also consists of a mini-Library with around 100 software and educational CDs and 100 IT books. A full-time lecturer and a full-time instructor have already been appointed by TITA

for this center. Like the first joint center in Jaffna, here too, the SKTATT has sponsored the capital, set up and running costs of the center. TITA has undertaken to manage the center, plan courses, carry out teaching and launch IT development programs for Vaddakkachchi and adjacent villages, using this center as a central resource center. Underprivileged students and youth living in Vaddakkachchi and adjacent villages will be given priority in admission process.

The sponsor of this center, the SKTATT, is one of the very active organizations operating among the Tamil Diaspora, providing several services to the war-affected Tamil Speaking society in North, East and Upcountry of Sri Lanka. They have donated a total of
