Mahinda’s Hypocrisy

by Kopi Annan

The current prime minister and presidential aspirant Mr. Rajapaksa’s manifesto dismisses the aspirations of the Tamils by challenging their right to self-rule in the form of even a meager federal structure. The prime minister insists on the unitary nature of the country and says that he would not allow the country to be divided. This statement alone demonstrates Mahinda’s character to be that of a hypocrite if one were to believe the prime minister’s character portrayal on his website www.mahindarajapaksa.com

Mr. Rajapaksa defines his character by professing for the need for a sovereign Palestinian state. He is equally proud of his solidarity with the Palestinian people as the President of the Sri Lankan Committee for Solidarity with Palestine for the last 25 years. But, when it comes to the Tamil question, Mr. Rajapaksa’s chintana seems to be just the opposite. There can be no greater hypocrisy on the part of Mr. Rajapaksa’s than with his contradictory chintanas on Palestine and Tamil Eeelam.

Here is his statement verbatim from the link at http://www.mahindarajapaksa.com/about.php .

“His interest in world affairs is manifested from the close interest he has taken in finding a peaceful solution to the Middle East problem within the framework of a sovereign Palestinian state. He is also the President of the Sri Lankan Committee for Solidarity with Palestine for past 25 years.”
