Colombo-bound LTTE Suspect Held

by Norman Palihawadana, Island, June 2, 2006

A reader of the website sent this to highlight the fact that, with all the killings and disappearances going on, a lot of other abuses are going on under the radar. Arrests, detentions, harassment, extortion, etc. are all going on in large number, but few are paying attention.

The Vavuniya police yesterday arrested a suspected LTTE cadre, a resident of the Trincomalee District, who was on his way to Colombo from Vavuniya in a Colombo bound bus.    He was sent to Colombo for questioning by the CID, police sources said.   The suspect was arrested at the Army checkpoint at Irattaperiyakulam.    Police investigations have revealed that he was responsible for setting up mines in a number of places, but is a person who had joined the LTTE only few months back, sources said.
