TSVP Speaker on Conflict Resolution

TSVP Distinguished Speaker Series on Conflict Resolution and Human Rights

The Tamil Students Volunteer Program Board is pleased to invite renowned researcher on Sri Lanka ’s stalemated communal strife Dr. Malathi Alwis of the International Centre for Ethnic Studies (ICES) to speak at the University Of Toronto, St George on the evening of June 30.

Dr. Alwis completed her Ph.D at the University of Chicago in Socio-Cultural Anthropology and is presently coordinating the ‘Gendering Peace Movements in South Asia' project. She has published and co-edited a number of scholarly articles, books and spoken at a number of international conferences on nationalism, feminism, gender issues, humanitarianism and peace activism.

Dr. Alwis’ discussion will address and interlink women’s activism in Sri Lanka and the case of missing persons during the insurgencies and the tribulations of their families.

The session will be interactive with sufficient time permitted for Q&A. The discussion will be held in observance of the spirit of the ‘Chatham House rule.’

TSVP would like to extend an invitation to Faculty, students, and members of the public.
