Tune in to the premiere of Chasing Freedom on Court TV, January 19, 2004 at 9:00 p.m. EST/PST, and find out why human rights organizations across the U.S. have thrown their support behind this eye-opening TV drama.
Juliette Lewis plays a reluctant pro bono attorney who takes the case of a young woman from Afghanistan who has applied for asylum in the U.S., and has been placed in detention by U.S. immigration authorities. The film was inspired by a real asylum case handled by the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights, which weighed in on the film to ensure an accurate depiction of detention since 9/11.
American Friends Service Committee has joined the Lawyers Committee, Active Voice and a host of other groups in a national campaign to use this movie to move viewers to action around issues of asylum, detention and refugee policy. Invite your friends over on January 19, download the Chasing Freedom Action Guide online at www.activevoice.net, and use the discussion questions provided to spark conversation.
