Brief Floor Remarks on the situation with Tamils

தமிழர்களின் நிலைமை பற்றிய சபையின் முன்னான சுருக்கமான கருத்துக்கள்

Mr. Speaker, I ask unanimous consent to address the House for one minute and to revise and extend my remarks.

சபாநாயகர் அவர்களே: சபையில் ஒரு நிமிடம் உரையாற்றுவதற்கும் எனது கருத்துக்களை மறுபரிசீலனை செய்து நீட்டிப்பதற்கும் சபையின் ஏகமனதான சம்மதத்தை கோருகின்றேன்

●     Mr. Speaker: I stand with the Eelam Tamils in Sri Lanka.

●      சபாநாயகர் அவர்களே: நான் இலங்கையில் உள்ள ஈழத் தமிழர்களுடன் இணைந்து நிற்கிறேன்.

●     Following the British departure in 1948, the unification of these kingdoms under a Sinhalese-dominated Sri Lanka led to the marginalization of the Tamil people.

●      1948 இல் பிரித்தானியர் வெளியேறியதைத் தொடர்ந்து, சிங்களவர்கள் ஆதிக்கம் செலுத்திய சிறீ லங்காவின் கீழ் இந்த இராச்சியங்கள் ஒன்றிணைக்கப்பட்டதனால் தமிழ் மக்கள் ஓரங்கட்டப்பட்டனர்.

●     This process disregarded the Tamils’ right to self-determination.

●      இந்த செயன்முறை தமிழ் மக்களின் சுயநிர்ணய உரிமையை புறக்கணித்தது.

●     State-sponsored discrimination and violence against Tamils sparked a tragic 30-year ethnic conflict, resulting in the 2009 Tamil Genocide.

●      அரச ஆதரவுடன் தமிழர்களுக்கு எதிராக நடாத்தப்பட்ட பாகுபாடு மற்றும் வன்முறை துயர் மிகுந்த 30 ஆண்டுகால இன முரண்பாட்டை தூண்டி 2009 ஆம் ஆண்டு தமிழ் இனப்படுகொலைக்கு வழிவகுத்தது.

●     Despite the United Nations Human Rights Council’s efforts for accountability, Sri Lanka, with China’s support, withdrew in 2020, further blocking justice for the Tamil community.

●      ஐக்கிய நாடுகளின் மனித உரிமைகள் பேரவை பொறுப்புக்கூறலுக்கான முயற்சிகளை மேற்கொண்ட போதிலும்இ இலங்கைஇ சீனாவின் ஆதரவுடன்இ 2020 இல் அதிலிருந்து வெளியேறியமை தமிழ் சமூகத்திற்கான நீதி கிடைப்பதை மேலும் தடுக்கிறது.

●     The recent arrests of Tamils for participating in peaceful events under the Prevention of Terrorism Act are deeply troubling.

●      அமைதியான நிகழ்வுகளில் பங்கேற்றதற்காக அண்மையில் தமிழர்கள் பயங்கரவாதத் தடைச் சட்டத்தின் கீழ் கைதுசெய்யப்பட்டமை மிகவும் கவலையளிக்கிறது.

●     Therefore, I call upon my colleagues in Congress to recognize and address the ongoing oppression of the Tamil People.

●      எனவே, காங்கிரஸில் உள்ள எனது சகாக்களை  தமிழ் மக்கள் மீது ஒடுக்குமுறை நடந்து வருவதை அங்கீகரித்து அதற்கு தீர்வுகாணுமாறு கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறேன்.

●     We must support a permanent solution that ensures stability and peace in this vital part of the Indo-Pacific.

●      இந்தோ-பசிபிக்கின் இந்த முக்கிய பகுதியில் ஸ்திரத்தன்மை மற்றும் அமைதியை உறுதி செய்யும் நிரந்தர தீர்வுக்கு நாம் ஆதரவளிக்க வேண்டும்.

●     And we must honor our commitment to human rights and democracy.

●      மேலும் மனித உரிமைகள் மற்றும் ஜனநாயகத்திற்கான எமது உறுதிப்பாட்டை நாம் மதிக்க வேண்டும்.

●     I yield back.
