Colombo Released Only 50% of Allocated 2018 Funds to NPC

The unitary state of genocidal Sri Lanka, both under Mahinda Rajapaksa and Maithiripala Sirisena, have been waging propaganda that the Northern Provincial Council was ineffective and that it has even returned allocated sums without deploying them for projects. In reality, Colombo was not even allocating the required funds to the NPC, and it was running a parallel system competing and isolating the elected NPC. The NPC has only received 2,035 million LKR of 4,314 million LKR which was supposed to be released by the SL General Treasury until the end of the official term of the first Northern Provincial Council on Thursday.

Three days before the official term of the first Northern Provincial Council ended, the NPC Deputy Chief Secretary of Finance attended a meeting at the general treasury in Colombo, where it was revealed that only 70% of the allocated funds would be released this year.

So far only 50% of the allocated funds have been released. The Central Treasury would issue 20% at the end of this year and the remaining 30% in the next year around February or March, the NPC was told.

The NPC has been unable to pay 845 million LKR to contractors due to delay, and several NPC-run projects are facing trouble, according to the financial sources at the NPC.

Contractors not receiving payments are suspending the projects, the NPC sources revealed.
